Hi, I’m Farah — one half of the duo behind Hello Chai (the other half is my husband, who still isn’t entirely sure how “let’s open a chai cafe” became our life). We moved to Malaysia and quickly discovered the teh tarik and masala chai here are genuinely excellent — no notes. But karak chai? Nowhere. We looked. We asked. We may have confused a few mamak stall uncles with very specific tea demands. Eventually we realized that if we wanted karak chai in Malaysia, we’d have to make it ourselves — so we did. Along the way we met plenty of fellow expats and locals who lit up at the mention of karak chai, which confirmed we weren’t just two people with a caffeine problem, but onto something worth sharing. So here we are: slightly over-caffeinated, fully committed, and very happy to finally bring karak chai home.
